Day 2 Marrakech 12 April 2026

I have already come to the conclusion that words are  interesting when writing about  Marrakesh but nothing compared to the photos.

We met our friend Philippa in the deserted souks this morning.

Clearly nothing starts early.

This morning we are meeting a guide who will take us on a tour of the souks and hopefully to a few areas that are not so commonly visited.

First stop was a Moroccan pharmaceutical and herbs… called Bloty. Apparently they sell magic lotion that gets rid of wrinkle: Botox like…the girls stocked up.

We are a little early, so first coffee at the cafe de Paris.

This cafe is on the edge of the famous Djemaa El Fna square, which is pretty quiet at the moment except for this cafe.

Great morning in the soukes, which are now well and truly awake and crowded.

Lots of shopping but a couple of highlights were being taken to “Sand” coffee cafe. The coffee is cooked in a golden pots, by the heat of the sand    (from the Sahara of course) and it is kept at  a constant temperature so as not to burn it. There were also an assortment of spices added including cumin and cinnamon. The rest were a secret.

We also met Mohamed’s mate who has the best BBQ lamb in the souke,!! could be right.

Stuart had 4 lamb chops and the Philippa and I  had 4 kebabs each with pita bread, all for 12€

I’m sure they were all mates of his but we wouldn’t have found them without him

So much fun shopping and Mohomad our guide was great. Giving us price guidance so at least you had a starting idea before the haggle.

Loads of unnecessary purchases made.

Back to cafe France for another coffee, this time up on the terrace overlooking the Jemaa el- Fnaa square which is still not very busy. Obviously heats up a bit later.

Great watching the goings in below us.

Slow mosey back to our Riad before coming out for dinner near Philippa's.

We’re having a few technical issues with the blog thus the photo dump, hopefully back to normal programming in due course.

  1. Beautiful. I’ve been to that coffee shop not for coffee water I think or maybe Diet Coke (called cola lite). Great view for people watching.
